 Letter from the President:

Esteemed members and friends of SNMSHRM:

I hope this letter finds you all in good spirits in your work and personal lives. As President of the Board for SNMSHRM I am very proud to announce changes that the 2014 Board of Directors believes will be good for our local Chapter. Most of all, I am grateful for such a strong Board and the work they bring to this organization and proudly represent them as your voice for SNMSHRM.

The biggest change we will seek for our Chapter is a change in the position titles for each Chair position.  Once approved in our Bylaws, their titles will become Directors and each position will also have voting rights on all Board related matters. As your President I take significant effort to hear their ideas and opinions regarding any matters, but existing Bylaws confer voting rights to the Executive Board. We wish to change this to the extent that each Director will have full voice and voting rights regarding Board concerns.

Further changes we are instituting will be to assist those who wish to become members but have financial difficulty with their dues. We have instituted a plan that will provide scholarships of 50% of the membership fee to SHRM with the provision that the prospective member will affiliate with our local Chapter. Furthermore, we can turn our Chapter financial gain back toward our membership with a plan wherein any member can gain points for participation in Chapter activities. At the end of one’s membership year, a member may be able to redeem the points for financial assistance toward their next annual dues payment. Our goal is two-fold: we want to assist our members with the ability to afford membership which is SHRM National dues, and we want to create greater level of inclusion from membership into the activities that we are involved in.

We have already established the tradition of turning funds back to the membership through scholarships for HRCI study as well as for tuition and expenses for State Conference and for the National Conference. Also, as we did last year, we have again drawn two names and awarded the full cost of the National SHRM Conference, airfare and lodging to two members who were chosen in the drawing. The first winning ticket was awarded to Gail Estell, and the second winning ticket was awarded to Sandra Miramontes.  Our goal was to award one Board member and one regular member to represent SNMSHRM at the Conference.

Thank you all for your participation in the SNMSHRM, we value each one of you.
