Register TODAY for the next Chapter Meeting!

Letter From the President

I am so excited for our upcoming chapter meetings!

We have a great speaker coming from Albuquerque to give us an employment case law update.  Alice Kilborn, JD PHR SHRM-CP, is a dynamic speaker who began her career in HR before enrolling in law school at UNM.  Having worked in HR she understands all facets of daily life as an HR professional.  Her analysis of the law is entertaining and easy to understand.

Israel Chavez, Development and Government Affairs Manager, from Equality New Mexico in Albuquerque will be coming down to present an intro into what is “LGBT”, LGBT issues related to employment, challenges, unemployment rates, and difficulties transgender individuals face in finding gainful employment.

I am hoping for a large turnout for both of these great speakers as they are coming down on their own time to share their wealth of knowledge with us.

Remember, if you already have a qualifying certification (ie PHR or SPHR) in good standing you are eligible to obtain the SHRM CP or SHRM SCP for free through the end of 2015.  If you are looking for more details please feel free to contact me.

Also, the board has been working very hard at planning upcoming meetings and events that will be informative and fun, no matter where your level of HR expertise is.  The upcoming meeting topics include:

May – Employment case law update with Alice Kilborn, JD PHR SHRM-SCP, from Kilborn Consulting.

June – LGBT issues and rights as it relates to employment with Israel Chavez, Development and Government Affairs Manager with Equality NM.

July - Staying compliant with ADA in 2015 and review of case studies

August - Rodney Klein Outreach & Education Manager from the EEOC

September - Employment Law Update

If you have any questions or suggestions for our chapter please let me know!
