Letter From the President
The SHRM National Conference is rapidly approaching! Have you signed up for the volunteer slots that are available to receive a reduced or free conference? The conference will be in Las Vegas, NV this year and I'm sure it will not be a disappointment. If you are planning on attending please let myself or another board member know so we can coordinate with everyone that is coming from New Mexico.
The meeting in April will feature Theresa Armendariz, PHR from La Casa, Inc. She is going to be discussing what is domestic violence, what can an employer expect from a situation where an employee is experiencing domestic violence, how to respond when someone reports domestic violence, as well as the laws regarding domestic violence as applied to the workplace. I hope to see you there!
Remember, if you already have a qualifying certification (ie PHR or SPHR) in good standing you are eligible to obtain the SHRM CP or SHRM SCP for free through the end of 2015. If you are looking for more details please feel free to contact me.
Also, the board has been working very hard at planning upcoming meetings and events that will be informative and fun, no matter where your level of HR expertise is. The upcoming meeting topics include:
April – Domestic Violence in the workplace with Theresa Armendariz, PHR
May – Legislative update with Alice Kilborn, Employment Law Attorney with Moody & Warner
June – Staying compliant with ADA in 2015 and review of case studies
July - Topic and Speaker Still Pending
August - Rodney Klein Outreach & Education Manager from the EEOC
September - Employment Law Update
If you have any questions or suggestions for our chapter please let me know!
